Flim Release Pattern

Wide Release:
  • Most common release pattern
  • Film release nationally in all markets
  • these release patterns requires heavy investments so is used by all the majors
  • Producers/distributors can gain revenues to recoup their investments in a shorter period of time (providing th film is successful
  • revenues from video/DVD sales can be regained fast from quickley executed releases


Modified Wide Release:
  • Film will open in only a few markets
  • awareness builds week to week 
  • engagements at limited number of screens
  • relies on positive word-of-mouth reputation to develope - moves slowly to additional theatres

Advertising

For advertising, location, ad size and frequency is KEY

Publishing and Advertising (P + A)

  • The cost of thearetical distribution, met by local distributors are referred to as "P+A"
  • P+A are the nuts and bolts of marketing and distributing films into cinemas, it's the tools used by distibutors to create a public for it's films
  • P+A also represents the bulk of the distributor's investment

Film Fridays

A disributor will assess this schedule to idetify a friday release date wher ther are only a few films scheduled for release...........
  • to make sure the film industry is sustainable
  • films are spreaded outover the year

Viral Marketing

Viral Marketing describes any strategy that encourages individuals  to pass on a marketing messages to others, creating the potential for exponential growth in the messages, exposures and influence

Vertical Intergration

The intergrationg of successive staes in the production andmarketing process under the ownership/control of a single management organistation

  • Distibutor enters an agreement with cinema on thef films's "play date"
  • Distributor is responsible to distribute films to cinemas through transportation
  • Cinemas spend money publcisig the films, so distributors have to distributeon time
